The Indian Veterinary Council Act, 1984 (Act No. 52 of 1984), was enacted by the Parliament of India in 1984 to regulate veterinary practice across the country.This legislation established the framework for the creation of Veterinary Councils in each state, with the primary responsibilities of maintaining registers of veterinary practitioners and ensuring adherence to professional standards.
The Uttarakhand State Veterinary Council was established in 02 sept 2004 to fulfil these objectives within the state.
The Council's primary source of funding is currently the Government of Uttarakhand. Prior to 2017-2018, the Council received financial support through a joint funding mechanism: 50% from the Department of Animal Husbandry & Dairying, Ministry of Agriculture, Government of India, and 50% from the Government of Uttarakhand under the "Professional Efficiency Development Programme."
The Uttarakhand Veterinary Council is a statutory body constituted under the Indian Veterinary Council Act, 1984. Its regulatory body comprises of 11 members who are as follows:-
Four members are elected by veterinary practitioners registered with the Uttarakhand State Veterinary Register.
Three members are nominated by the Government of Uttarakhand.
